Frequently Asked Questions
How much tip should I leave in India?
Tipping is not mandatory in India. For good service, 5–10% is generous at restaurants; many people round up to the nearest 50 or 100 instead.
What is a service charge?
It is an optional charge many Indian restaurants add to the bill, usually 5–10%. You can pay it, or ask the restaurant to remove it — it is not the same as a tip and not a tax.
Should the tip be calculated on the bill or bill plus service charge?
It is your choice. Tip on the bill only is the simplest and most common. Tipping on the bill plus service charge gives a slightly larger tip. The toggle lets you compare both.
How do I split the bill fairly?
Enter the bill amount, tip percentage and the number of people. The calculator shows the exact amount each person owes, including their share of the tip.
How do I work out what percentage I tipped?
Switch to 'Find tip %' mode, enter your bill and the tip amount you left. The calculator divides the tip by the bill and shows it as a percentage.
