How to Use This Calculator

Worked Example

The total comes to ₹2,760, and divided by four, each person pays ₹690. The calculator shows the per-head share including both tax and tip, so there is no awkward arithmetic at the table. Tips and Common Mistakes
- •Tip 1: In India, tipping is discretionary and no service charge is mandatory, so set the tip percentage to what you actually plan to leave.
- •Tip 2: Calculate the tip on the pre-tax amount rather than the taxed total so the server does not receive a tip on the GST portion.
- •Tip 3: If the bill already says 'GST included', enter the tax rate as zero to avoid counting the tax twice.
- ✗Mistake 1: Entering the tax rate as 0.05 instead of 5, which will make the tax amount look twenty times smaller than it should be.
- ✗Mistake 2: Forgetting to include everyone in the headcount, which makes the per-person share come out higher than it actually is.
