How to Use This Calculator

Worked Example
A 10 ft × 10 ft boundary wall, one brick thick at 9 inches, holds 10 × 10 × 0.75 = 75 cubic feet of masonry. Using the Indian modular brick of 230 × 115 × 75 mm with a 10 mm mortar joint, each brick and its joint occupies 0.24 × 0.125 × 0.085 = 0.00255 m³, so the wall needs 833 bricks. At ₹8 per brick, the material costs 833 × 8 = ₹6,664, and about 0.47 m³ of cement-sand mortar fills the joints — the number a contractor needs to order cement and sand.
Tips and Common Mistakes
- •Tip 1: Add 5% for breakage — bricks crack during transport and cutting.
- •Tip 2: The same wall in 4.5-inch thickness uses exactly half the bricks per sq ft, about 4.2 instead of 8.3.
